Western Australian Multicultural Awards 2022 recipients announced

  • 15 March 2022

The Western Australian Multicultural Awards 2022 recognised the contributions of multicultural individuals and organisations last night, 14 March 2022.

There were 10 awards presented during the Awards Ceremony, which was streamed online to reduce large-scale events. Viewers in the room and at home enjoyed a Welcome to Country delivered by Sandra Harben and entertainment from Sino Swing. Emcee for the evening was Helene Hoi-Ying Fung.

Recipients included Sukhjit Kaur Khalsa (pictured), who received the Arts Award. Poet and playwright Sukhjit is no stranger to being recognised for her craft, having been a 2022 WA Young Australian of the Year finalist.

Sikh Gurdwara Perth, which received the Community Citizen of the Year Active Citizenship Award from City of Swan in 2021, was presented with the Premier’s Community Response and Recovery Award.

“I congratulate the Western Australians recognised in the 2022 Western Australian Multicultural Awards and thank them for their unstinting contributions to building inclusiveness in our community,” said Citizenship and Multicultural Interests Minister, Tony Buti.

“Cultural diversity is one of this State’s greatest strengths, bringing across-the-board benefits to every Western Australian and to every area of our development. The people and organisations recognised in the 2022 Western Australian Multicultural Awards are role models who are changing lives in our community with their dedication and passion.”
