Record number of WA communities awarded Australia Day event grants

From grassroots community groups to local government authorities, 91 successful recipients of Australia Day Community Event grants will help bring Western Australians together to reflect, respect and celebrate on Australia Day in 2027.
Delivered by the National Australia Day Council with funding provided by the Australian Government, these community grants create opportunities for people to come together and celebrate the people, stories and contributions that make Western Australia such a special place to call home. For 2027, a total of $4.5 million has been made available for Australia Day events and activities around the country.
For the WA recipients, the grants represent an opportunity to turn community ideas into action, receiving a total of $935,000 to deliver 142 events in our state on Australia Day. People can expect a diverse range of locally designed activities, such as family-friendly entertainment, First Nations cultural elements, Australia Day Ambassadors, recognition of volunteers, arts and cultural experiences, sporting and recreational activities, citizenship ceremonies, and other initiatives tailored to local interests to bring communities together.
Morgen Lewis, CEO of Auspire – Australia Day Council WA, congratulated the grant recipients, expressing that local communities were at the heart of what makes Australia Day special.
“Australia Day is about people, connection and the wonderful things that can happen when communities come together. The incredible growth in grant applications across Western Australia reflects a renewed enthusiasm for Australia Day as one of our favourite days of the year, a day to come together and celebrate the diversity of who we are as Australians.”
