Australia Day Ambassadors share their Australian stories with WA communities

  • 29 January 2024

Dozens of Auspire’s Australia Day Ambassadors headed to communities across Western Australia to share their inspiring personal journeys and encourage local people to reflect, respect and celebrate around Australia Day.

Thanks to the great diversity and achievements of our Ambassadors, many different stories of challenges and perseverance were shared to inspire people to reflect on their own.

The people of Melville heard about the story of Lueth Garang as a refugee and teacher; dedicated environmentalist, Nahrel Dallywater, shared her perspective of what it’s like to be Australian and the opportunities it offers, with the Shire of Capel; and Asha Bhat OAM (pictured directly above) shared her migrant journey from India to Albany with Nedlands residents the day before Australia Day.

“The outpouring of positive feedback and appreciation for my inspirational story was truly heartening,” said Asha. “Every second spent engaging with the audience and sharing this journey was immensely fulfilling. [I was] so proud to wear my Indian outfit, embracing my identity and celebrating the rich tapestry of my heritage.”

As well as delivering keynote speeches, our Inspiring Australians helped with a range of activities and duties, such as presenting the Community Citizen of the Year Awards.

No stranger to being recognised, WA 2022 Australian of the Year, Paul Litherland (pictured left), was hosted by the City of Mandurah and met the recipients of their 2024 Community Citizen of the Year Awards.

“It was great to be part of the announcements for the Citizen of the Year Awards and to hear the stories of such wonderful West Aussies doing amazing work,” said Paul. “As an Australia Day Ambassador, it is so humbling to hear such awesome journeys and celebrate those making this country the best place on the planet.”
