Auspire Australia Day Launch Breakfast 2019
Auspire – The Australia Day Council WA collaborated with Reconciliation WA and The City of Perth to launch Australia Day for the state with a fabulous inclusive ceremony, held at the City of Perth on 23rd January.
Whilst initially planned for the beautiful gardens, the unseasonal heavy rains and winds forced the event inside, however this didn’t dampen spirits. Over 280 guests gathered to hear from The Governor of Western Australia share his Australia Day Address and also to send off our current WA 2019 Australian of the Year recipients.
Especially moving was the story from Senior Australian of the Year, and member of the stolen generation Frank Mallard, who spoke of forgivingness and love as his guiding compass through life.
During the event, all guests were invited to contribute to a wonderful collaborative art piece designed by Aboriginal artist by Jilalga Murray.
Many Auspire Ambassadors also attended the event before they headed off around the state to various shires and local communities as special guest speakers at Civic Receptions.
This year’s celebrations also marked the 70th anniversary of the introduction of Australian citizenship into law and WA will welcome 3,098 individuals from 102 nationalities across 72 ceremonies. Australia is one of the most successful multicultural countries in the world. Since 1949, over five million people have become Australian citizens.
If you know of anyone who you’d like to recommend as an Auspire Ambassador, please let us know here.
