Women from ISHAR attend Civics and Citizenship Leadership Forum.

Women from ISHAR Multicultural Centre for Women’s Health came together on September 3rd at Mirrabooka, to spend a wonderful morning at Civics and Citizenship Forum presented by Auspire – Australia Day Council WA. ISHAR provides a range of holistic servces to women from all walks of life and cultural background and in August 2014, it celebrated 22 years of service to women and their families from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

The forum included speakers from the Australian of the Year Alumni:

  • 2018 Senior Australian of the Year recipient – Kath Mazella
  • 2016 Young Australian of they Year recipient – Catherine Hughes

These two outstanding women shared their stories about their work in the community to raise awareness for women’s health and family health, not only in WA but also nationally and globally.

The Civics and Citizenship capacity building program also includes a Masterclass option, which delvs deeper into values and the responsibility of active citizenship, the Australian Constitution, the Australian parliamentary system, law-making system, how to vote and how to make the vote count.
