Aboriginal Cultural Awareness

Aboriginal Cultural Awareness Workshops

Facilitated by First Nations’ leaders, Auspire’s Aboriginal Cultural Awareness Workshops improve and enhance awareness and understanding of Aboriginal culture and perspectives – providing skills in how to better engage with First Nations’ Peoples to grow mutual respect and have more effective relationships.

The sessions are interactive, encourage reflection and inspire commitment towards improving Aboriginal cultural knowledge and understanding. Parts are self-directed to ensure participants connect their learning to their experience.

Auspire delivers a range of public workshops to suit wherever you are on your cultural awareness journey. These are available in a variety of formats.

Aboriginal Cultural Awareness: Bridging the Knowledge Gap – online and in person

An entry-level, half-day workshop ideal for participants who are looking to gain knowledge and context of Aboriginal culture, traditions and values; Australian history and the impact of colonisation.

Topics include:

  • Significant moments in history that have shaped the way Aboriginal Australians are today
  • Cultural beliefs, customs and values, and their role in mainstream Australian society
  • Contemporary vs traditional lifestyles, connection to country, community and kinship
  • What are the barriers between Aboriginal peoples and non-Aboriginal Australians?
  • The importance of self-determination and identity
  • The journey to wellbeing.

If you are already versed in the culture and history of First Nations’ Peoples, but want to apply the learnings and theories in real-life scenarios, consider our Walking Together in Action workshop.

Aboriginal Cultural Awareness: Walking Together in Action – in person only

An interactive half-day workshop that applies knowledge, context and experiences into role play scenarios and exercises that participants can apply in real life. Knowledge of Aboriginal history and culture is advantageous but not essential.

Topics include:

  • How to engage, communicate and work with Aboriginal people including cultural protocols
  • Understanding micro aggressions and unconscious bias
  • Respecting significant sites/heritage areas
  • Understanding Cultural Safety and how to work towards it
  • Sources and solutions to racism
  • Awareness of white privilege and white fragility.

These workshops may be combined for a full-day, in-person workshop. See our upcoming public sessions below.
