Young Australian of the Year finalist new CEO of FECCA
FECCA is the peak, national body representing Australians from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Its role is to advocate and promote issues on behalf of its constituency to government, business and the broader community.
Last week Auspire was pleased to hear of the appointment of Mr Mohammad Al-Khafaji to the role of FECCA Acting CEO. Mr Al-Khafaji was formerly FECCA Director of Strategy and Engagement and bring a wealth of experience to the table.
Born in Iraq, Mr Al-Khafaji came to Australia as a refugee when he was just 13 years old. He completed a Bachelor of Software Engineering at the University of Adelaide in 2012 and after several years working as a software analyst whilst volunteering with Community organisations on the side, in 2015 was was appointed as the inaugural CEO of Welcome to Australia, an organisation dedicated to cultivating a culture of welcome towards refugees and migrants in our country.
“Auspire worked with Mr Al-Khafaji and his team when we was the CEO at Welcome to Australia and we presented our inaugural Social Inclusion Symposium in 2017” said Auspire CEO Ms Morgen Lewis. “It’s very clear through his own refugee story, that Mohammad is passionate about the success of Australia’s Multiculturalism and I believe he will do an outstanding job I this important leadership role.”
Mohammad is also an Australian of the Year Awards alumni, recognised last year as a finalist in the SA 2018 Young Australian of the Year category.
