Western Australians unite to reflect, respect and celebrate on Australia Day 2025

  • 28 January 2025

Hundreds of thousands of people across Western Australia gathered in towns and cities to recognise Australia Day 2025.

In recognition of the significance of the day, events and activities provided a chance for residents and citizens to reflect on our history and the resilience of First Nations’ people; respect the diverse cultures and many different stories that make up our nation; and celebrate new citizens, people who contribute, and the opportunities that living in Australia gives us all.

Auspire began the day in East Perth to present a Smoking Ceremony and Welcome to Country with Noongar Elder, Mr Barry Winmar. The Aboriginal custom was enjoyed by local residents and visitors to Victoria Gardens, who looked on as members of Corroboree for Life performed traditional dance. A BBQ breakfast was then served up by the Rotary Club of Heirrison.

Later in the afternoon, we brought the Reflect Respect Celebrate Film Dome back to Langley Park in City of Perth for a third year. The film dome was a huge success, with the movies ‘Six Noongar Seasons’ and ‘Koora Koora: A Long Long Time Ago’ captivating the audience.

After each screening, audience members were treated to a merchandise bag filled with goodies including flags, a cap, a cling koala and temporary tattoos, to help them continue to reflect, respect and celebrate. A roaming photo booth also gave families and friends a memento of the occasion.

This year, food and drink was available in the Eat Zone, adorned with bunting, signage and green umbrellas, for Langley Park visitors to enjoy an array of cuisine.
