WA 2025 Australians of the Year to celebrate recognition and impact with community event

  • 12 August 2025

Western Australia’s 2025 Australians of the Year, Di and Ian Haggerty, are renowned for their groundbreaking work in the field of Natural Intelligence Farming (NIF), a form of regenerative agriculture that harmonises with the land’s natural ecosystems. Their innovative methods not only rejuvenate soil microbiomes but also boost eco-system resilience, making farms more sustainable and productive.

The Haggertys manage 26,000 hectares in the northeastern Wheatbelt of WA and have shown their methods are viable at scale. Their groundbreaking approach has also attracted global recognition, with Di regularly invited to speak at national and international conferences to support adoption of NIF.

Next month, Di and Ian are hosting an event to share more about their story and invite the Perth community to come along and take a deeper dive into the principles of NIF. They will share insights into how these practices can transform agricultural landscapes, enhance biodiversity, and ultimately contribute to healthier foods, nutrition and the environment.

Joining the WA 2025 Australians of the Year are a stella line up of guest speakers including the ABC’s Gourmet Farmer and author of ‘Soil’, ‘Milk’, and ‘The Dirty Chef’, Matthew Evans; and internationally renowned soil scientist, Dr Jill Clapperton. Together, they’ll share how natural systems and biodiversity creates food with richer flavour,  nutrient integrity, and the power to regenerate both human and planetary health.

Between delicious food and craft beer tastings created with ingredients grown under Di and Ian’s NIF methods, attendees will have the chance to connect with some of the brightest and most passionate voices in food, farming, and soil health.

“Di and Ian Haggerty have been recognised as two of the leading voices in the field of regenerative food production systems,” said Morgen Lewis, CEO of Auspire – Australia Day Council WA. “As the organisation that runs the Australian of the Year Awards in WA, and having spent time with Di and Ian, we’d love to see anyone interested in nutritional health and wellbeing, sustainable agriculture or sustainability more broadly, come along to celebrate Di and Ian’s contribution to human and planetary health.”

The night will be a delicious showcase of how healthy soils translate into vibrant flavours and thriving communities and a chance to support Di and Ian’s inspiring mission.

Nourish Perth: The Flavour of Nature takes place on Wednesday 17 September, 5.30pm-9.30pm, at The Camfield. Tickets are available here.
