Vale WA Australian of the Year 2021 finalist, Chemmangot Nayar

It is with great sadness that we advise of the passing of Emeritus Professor, Chemmangot Nayar – WA Australian of the Year 2021 finalist and valued member of the Malayalee Association of Western Australia.

Professor Nayar had dedicated almost four decades to advancing the clean energy industry through pioneering research and practical applications of technology, with a focus on remote communities and islands.

During his career, he secured over $9 million in grants and implemented more than 40 projects worldwide. His designs have contributed to economic growth by generating public awareness, employment opportunities and tourism.

He shared his wisdom and expertise within roles in higher education and renewable energy institutions, including Director of the Centre for Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technologies at Curtin University. He also regularly advised United Nations agencies, government aid agencies and related industries around the world.

Our deepest condolences go to Professor Nayar’s family and loved ones.
