Community Citizen of the Year Awards 2021

Australia Day continues to be a popular day to recognise our community champions. We were thrilled that the number of nominations for the Community Citizen of the Year Awards grew to over 800 this year showing that our communities value the contribution of others.

The disruptive year we experienced in 2020 was reflected in the selection of many of the Community Citizen of the Year Award recipients throughout the state with a large increase in the number of community groups being nominated and recognised.

It was noticeable, through the information gathered from nominations, that people have rallied within their local communities to assist others through lockdown and isolation with initiatives from sharing food and supplies to encouraging participation in art and music to lift their spirits.

The aim of the Community Citizen of the Year Awards is not only to recognise those who step up and lead community initiatives but also to encourage community engagement and participation and the information we gather from the nominations certainly supports this.

We appreciate the support of Councils in delivering this program and we also are grateful for the support of Channel 9 Perth, 6PR 882 and WAToday for helping us spread the word. Thanks also to Lotterywest and Westcare Print for their valued support.
