Celebrating Stories of Belonging – My Australia Story

Auspire – Australia Day Council WA commends the latest season of My Australia Story, a remarkable face-to-face conversation series initiated by Dr Maggie Jiang at the University of Western Australia’s School of Social Sciences. Delivered in partnership with WA Museum Boola Bardip, the series provides a unique platform for first-generation Australians to share their journeys, achievements, and contributions to our nation.
Each episode showcases the lived experiences of individuals who embody the spirit of active citizenship and participation in Australian society. Their stories highlight what it means to be Australian and reflect the richness of our national identity.
The latest series features four episodes, including two guests who are well known within Auspire’s extended network of Inspiring Australians.
In recognition of her leadership and compassion, Dr Jacinta Vu was honoured as the 2025 WA Local Hero in the Australian of the Year Awards, and her story is highlighted in Episode 2. Professor Samina Yasmeen, a distinguished academic who served on the Board of the National Australia Day Council from 2010 to 2017, tells her story in Episode 3. All four episodes can be viewed here.
“At Auspire, we believe that every story of migration that carries a true sense of belonging adds another important thread to the rich fabric of Australia’s identity,” said Morgen Lewis, CEO of Auspire – Australia Day Council WA. “My Australia Story provides a powerful space to honour these journeys, and we are proud to support and celebrate the individuals whose contributions strengthen our community and our nation.”
Auspire’s long-standing strategic alliance with the University of Western Australia reflects a shared commitment to fostering inclusion, education, and a sense of belonging for all Australians. Together, we celebrate the privilege of being part of a diverse, resilient and united community.
