Australia Day Ambassadors reflect, respect and celebrate with local communities

  • 29 January 2026

Twenty of Auspire’s Inspiring Australians’ Ambassadors visited local communities for Australia Day, to encourage reflection and celebration as they shared their part of Australia’s story.

These visits are always a highlight of Australia Day events, with Ambassadors emphasising the importance of unity, respect and responsibility as an Australian on our national day. They are often tasked with giving the keynote speech at citizenship ceremonies to help welcome new citizens, announcing the Local Government’s Community Citizens of the Year, and assisting in activities throughout the day.

For 2026, environmentalist, Nahrel Dallywater, was in the Shire of Northam; Noongar woman and human rights activist, Krista Dunstan, was with the City of Subiaco, and tech entrepreneur, Nilesh Makwana, visited the people of Donnybrook Balingup.

“Standing alongside community leaders, volunteers and families, I had the privilege of presenting Australian citizenship certificates to our newest Australians, a moment that never loses its meaning,” Nilesh said following his visit.

“As someone who came to Australia as a migrant myself, days like this reaffirm why I believe so deeply in living with purpose, contributing meaningfully, and creating opportunity for others, whether through community work, digital inclusion initiatives, or building organisations that serve people well. Grateful for the opportunity to serve, to listen, and to stand with community.”

Elsewhere, para dance advocate, Darryl Davenport OAM, visited the Town of Cottesloe, and No Limits Perth founder, Janine Wood, spoke to guests of the City of Joondalup Citizenship Ceremony, just as she was being named 2026 Community Citizen of the Year in the City of Wanneroo.

2022 WA Australian of the Year, Paul Litherland, joined the City of Mandurah, after having just been announced as featuring on the Australia Day Honours list.

Auspire is proud to collaborate with so many Inspiring Australians, each of whom give their time to contribute to local communities for Australia Day.

Australia Day Ambassador appearances and presentations are made possible thanks to support from the Australian Government through the National Australia Day Council.
