Acacia Prison Staff Support Aboriginal Cultural Awareness

  • 23 October 2020

Last month Auspire was invited to deliver a series of Aboriginal Cultural Awareness Workshops for staff at Acacia prison.

At the beginning of the sessions prison staff expressed an interest in learning about how to create a more culturally safe space and break down repressive stereotypes commonly associated with those ‘in uniform’. During the sessions some challenging topics were skillfully approached making staff feel safe to explore more deeply. The sessions are presented as ‘no guilt no blame’ training which frees participants to interact in a highly authentic way.

Feedback from Acacia prison staff included:

‘Changed my views, now more sensitive and empathic, have more knowledge and understanding and awareness of relationships and bonds and stereotyping.’

‘Danny was amazing and navigated through some very confronting and awkward moments and territory. However he made us feel safe to say anything.’

Auspire thank Acacia for the opportunity to deliver this session and look forward to working with their team again in the future.
