The Museum of the Great Southern is partnering with the Southern Aboriginal Corporation to host the Red Shoes Australia installation as part of the annual 16 Days in WA: Stop Violence Against Women campaign.

With one woman losing their life to gender-based violence in Australia every week, the Red Shoes installation aims to provide a visual representation of the lives lost and a reminder of the continued need for reform.

Red Shoes Australia is driven by Ambassador and forensic scientist, Dr Paola Magni (pictured), who discovered Mexican artist Elina Chauvet’s public art installation, Los Zapatos Rojos, made entirely of red shoes, in her Italian hometown of Turin.

The installation is free to visit at the Museum of the Great Southern in Albany from 25 November – 10 December.

For her impact within forensic science and awareness of domestic violence, Dr Paola Magni was a WA finalist in the 2024 Australian of the Year Awards.
