The Awards honour exceptional and inspiring Australians who ignite discussion and change on issues of national importance.
The National Australia Day Council Board selects the Australians of the Year from a group of 32 State and Territory recipients, each of whom are nominated by the public. As the Australia Day Council of Western Australia, Auspire encourages nominations and presents the Awards in WA. The prestigious year-round program culminates in the announcement of the national Award recipients in Canberra on Australia Day Eve.
Nominations for the 2026 Awards close 31 July 2025 at 10pm AWST.
It only takes one nomination to recognise someone.
The Australian of the Year Awards recognise individuals from four categories:
- Australian of the Year
- Senior Australian of the Year
- Young Australian of the Year
- Australia’s Local Hero
