SUMMARY:Inspiring Australians' Breakfast with 2024 Australians of the Year
DESCRIPTION:Auspire – Australia Day Council WA in partnership with Cancer Council WA presents an Inspiring Australians’ Breakfast with 2024 Australians of the Year\, Professors Georgina Long AO and Richard Scolyer AO. \nAs groundbreaking researchers at Melanoma Institute Australia\, Georgina and Richard have witnessed the life-ending effects of our obsession with getting a tan\, a culture that has led to melanoma becoming Australia’s national cancer. They have dedicated their careers to saving lives from cancer\, curing more than 50% of Australians with advanced melanoma. \nBut prevention is always better than cure. Every 30 minutes\, an Australian is diagnosed with melanoma and it is the most common cancer in Australians aged 20-39. \nDon’t become a statistic. At this Inspiring Australians’ Breakfast\, you’ll be encouraged to change your relationship with the sun\, save your skin (potentially your life) and urge others to do the same. \nIt’s time to cure our culture of being a sunburnt nation. \nBook Here \n

SUMMARY:Inspiring Australians' Breakfast with Mechelle Turvey
DESCRIPTION:Book Here \nAuspire – Australia Day Council WA presents an Inspiring Australians’ Breakfast with WA 2024 Australian of the Year\, Mechelle Turvey. \nIn 2022\, Mechelle Turvey’s 15-year-old son\, Cassius Turvey\, was assaulted coming home from school. Tragically\, the Noongar Yamatji schoolboy died of his injuries 10 days later. \nCassius’ death sparked a national day of action across Australia\, with rallies and vigils to express grief\, anger\, hurt and solidarity with his loved ones. Mechelle\, still grieving the recent death of her husband Sam\, led the march in Perth. She gave a powerful speech about her son\, calling for calm and non-violence – and the need for proper care for victims of crime and their families. \nIn 2023\, Mechelle began utilising her lived experiences by training Western Australia Police Force recruits in dealing with victims of crime with empathy and support. She is now Assistant Director of the Community Liaison Unit. \nSome may say Mechelle has become an “Accidental Leader” following her experience\, but through her life\, she has volunteered to support her community\, including helping people in prison. She has donated much of the money raised for Cassius to youth organisations. \nHer courage\, care and compassion for others are exemplary. \nJoin us to meet and hear from the incredibly inspiring\, Mechelle Turvey\, in person. \nProudly supported by City of Swan and P&N Bank. \nBook Here \nBreakfast included. Book by Tuesday 11 June to guarantee dietary requirements are met.
