Delivered within a culturally safe and inclusive framework\, you will have the opportunity to learn\, discuss and have your questions answered. \nFacilitated by a First Nations’ educator\, this workshop explores the values and belief systems of Aboriginal people\, and discusses the impacts of colonisation and how these still play out today. \nThis session is ideal for individuals and teams starting out their Aboriginal Cultural Competency journey\, to facilitate real and lasting change through changed attitudes and behaviours at both a professional and personal level. The afternoon will take participants through a roleplay titled ‘Exercise in Frustration’\, plus explore in more detail the concept of inherent bias\, with the goal of moving your mindset from apathy to empathy\, to improve connection and relationships between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people. \nThis workshop is facilitated by an experienced and knowledgeable First Nations’ Noongar leader\, within a culturally safe and inclusive framework. DESCRIPTION:Auspire – Australia Day Council WA\, in partnership with the Department of Local Government\, Sport and Cultural Industries\, presents an Inspiring Australians’ Lunch with special guest\, Neale Daniher AO\, during his only visit to Perth this year.\n \nBeyond the Boundary Line: A footy icon’s fight for a cure.\n\nTicket sales are now closed! \nNeale Daniher AO is an AFL legend\, playing with Essendon FC before coaching the Melbourne Demons and the Fremantle Dockers. \nIn 2008\, Neale became general manager of the West Coast Eagles\, until 2013\, when tragically\, he was diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND). \nSince his diagnosis\, Neale\, with the unwavering support of his family\, has been battling the debilitating effects of the disease in the public eye\, tirelessly campaigning and raising awareness of MND as co-founder of FightMND\, a charity that has raised and invested over $115 million into medical research. The annual Big Freeze event at the MCG embodies Neale’s ethos of turning adversity into an opportunity for celebration and hope. \nNeale has lived with the cruel disease for more than 10 years\, defying the average life expectancy of just 27 months. With amazing courage and relentless drive\, he is dedicated to helping prevent the suffering of those who’ll be diagnosed in the future. \nFor his incredible fight and resilience\, Neale was named the 2025 Australian of the Year. \nHear more of his inspiring story at this Inspiring Australians’ Lunch at Optus Stadium.
